Plans to construct the Toronto Ontario Temple were announced April 7, 1984. Church leaders broke ground October 10, 1987, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counsellor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Toronto Ontario Temple August 25, 1990. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Ontario.

The 5,387-square-metre temple’s exterior is white cast stone.
