Just in time for Family Day, the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS), FamilySearch International and the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) have announced a new initiative to digitize the historic Vernon Directories for the province of Ontario. The project will start immediately and encompass an estimated 1,875 directories from the 1890s to 2014.

FamilySearch International is the largest genealogy organization in the world. It is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Millions of people use FamilySearch resources to learn more about their family history. For over 100 years, FamilySearch has gathered, preserved and shared its collection of family records. FamilySearch records can be accessed free of charge through FamilySearch.org or at the 160+ family history centres across Canada, 54 of which are located in Ontario.
Elder Alain Allard, Area Seventy with responsibility for national public affairs, says of the project, “This will help researchers to discover the joy of finding close or distant family members. It comes from a dynamic partnership of organizations and people donating their personal time to make this happen.”
