Mormons Present Live Nativity Pageants Across Canada

Across Canada, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are presenting live nativity pageants portraying the biblical account of the Christmas story.

Mormon nativity pageants have become an important Christmas tradition for thousands of Canadian families who join in re-enacting the events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. Often involving elaborate costumes, sets and live animals, volunteer casts (selected mainly from local congregations) celebrate the season by offering in their communities free performances of the nativity scene.

This year marks a special 50th anniversary of the nativity pageant in Calgary, Alberta, a pageant that usually draws over 20,000 people a year and is set on a hillside just outside Heritage Park. Members of the Church offer the pageant to the community as a non-profit public service event. For many residents, attending the pageant has become a favourite annual Christmas tradition.
