Mormon Youth Attend Leadership Conference

Over 625 youth and 120 leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario from 15-18 August 2012 for the Youth Leadership Conference (YLC). Attendees came from across the province of Ontario including Barrie, Brampton, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Oshawa, Sudbury and Toronto.

The annual conference brought local spiritual and experienced motivational speakers who addressed the needs of youth in general assemblies and workshops centred on the Church-wide 2012 youth theme "Arise and Shine Forth". YLC helps youth gain new friendships, build leadership skills and strengthen spiritual values.

One of the highlights of the conference included three separate service projects carried out by the youth and their leaders. One group prepared school kits for a group of students in Costa Rica which will be personally delivered by Church leader David Wiwchar from Sudbury, Ontario. Another group of youth traveled to a local housing complex where they created and planted flower beds for families living in that community.

Participants were grateful to the staff at the University of Western Ontario, who accommodated the needs of housing and feeding 750 people during the conference. Mormon youth thanked the University of Western Ontario for their incredible hospitality by cleaning garbage out of a ravine area situated on campus.
