Canadian Interfaith Conversation Launches New Website

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of 39 participating organizations in the Canadian Interfaith Conversation (CIC). The CIC emerged from the 2010 Canadian Interfaith Partners, established when the G8 summit took place in Ontario in 2010. Participants have met regularly since that time, garnering additional support and participation.

To further its work, the CIC has launched a new website at www.interfaithconversation.ca. We encourage you to explore this site. It is designed to be a contribution to Canada’s national public square, a place where Canadian religious communities and interfaith organizations can interact, dialogue and advance positive and constructive conversation in Canada.

The CIC Charter Vision advocates for religion in a pluralistic society and in Canadian public life. It promotes harmony and spiritual insights amongst religions and religious communities in Canada. Participants work for the greater realization of the fundamental freedom of conscience and religion for the sake of a common good.

These values are consistent with teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that promote and defend religious freedom. The Church’s eleventh article of faith states, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”

Thomas S. Monson, president of the Church, has said, “We have a responsibility to be active in the communities where we live, all Latter-day Saints, and to work cooperatively with other churches and organizations. … It’s important that we eliminate the weakness of one standing alone and substitute for it the strength of people working together.” See: Who Are the Mormons.
