Temple President Announced for Halifax Nova Scotia Mormon Temple

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced Roy A. Fox as president of the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple.

Prior to his calling as president of the temple, President Fox served in various church responsibilities, which included serving as an ordinance worker in the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple.

President Fox had a distinguished career in medicine. He was appointed director of the Nova Scotia Environmental Health Centre to oversee the building of a new clinic and to begin treating environmental illness. His service expanded and became fully integrated into the health care system in Nova Scotia. When President Fox retired in September 2013, he was serving as the medical director of the Integrated Chronic Care Service, thus concluding a long career of research and innovation in geriatric and environmental medicine.

His wife, Hilda Fox, will serve as temple matron. A family practice physician, Sister Fox retired in 2012 and is excited to serve as matron of the Mormon temple in Halifax. She says, “I thank Heavenly Father for the privilege of serving the Maritime people with my husband and sweetheart.”

President Fox was born in Suffolk, United Kingdom, and attended medical school at the Newcastle University in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was there that he met Hilda and they were married during their last year of medical school. President and Sister Fox live in Waverly, Nova Scotia, and have five children and 16 grandchildren.

As temple president, he oversees the daily operation of the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple. To members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are literally “houses of the Lord.” Temples are sacred buildings in which Latter-day Saints receive instruction about the purpose of life and their relationship to God. There they take part in religious ceremonies that reach beyond mortality, both for themselves and in behalf of deceased ancestors. They also make covenants to serve God and others.

President and Sister Fox began their three-year service as leaders in the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple on 1 November 2013.
